Getting to Aveiro

From Porto Airport (OPO) to Aveiro

You can travel from the airport by subway (easiest and cheeper), train, bus, taxi, or rented car. Take the METRO DO PORTO Line E from the Airport to Campanhã train station (you may need to change trains). Trains are currently running about every 15 minutes on weekdays between about 07:00 and 20:00, at least 3 trains run each hour until early evening, then 2 trains each other hour.

The first train from the airport departs at 06:06 on weekdays, and at 05:57 at weekends and public holidays. The last train departs at 00:42 every day. That will take about 35 minutes and costs €2.75 – a Z4 (four zone) ticket. Do not throw away your “ANDANTE” ticket if you are coming back to Porto, since it is rechargeable. Tickets are sold at the Airport tourist office or in ticket machines.

At Campanhã walk from the Metro station round to the main railway station of CP, Portuguese Railways. That takes about one minute. From there, local electric trains of the Porto Urbanos network run daily to Aveiro about once every hour, a normal journey takes about 1 hour and will cost €3.55 plus the €0.50 of the rechargeable “SIGA” ticket card. You can buy the ticket at the ticket office or at ticket machines. First train from Porto Campanhã to Aveiro departs at 04:45 on weekdays, 05:50 daily. The last trains depart at 22:50, 23:50 and 01:00 daily. Trains from Aveiro to Porto run daily from 04:27 to 23:20, then at 23:52 except on Saturdays. Trains run about once each hour for most of the day, with extra trains during weekday rush hours.

Be aware that these ‘SIGA’ tickets are NOT VALID on Alfa Pendular or Intercity trains kind of trains. Urbanos trains are (mostly) bright yellow!  If you do use one of the Alfa Pendular or Intercity fast trains the trip to Aveiro will costs about 10 – 12€ and takes about 25 minutes.

Be sure to check timetables at the Metro do Porto and Portugal Railways Official website. (links below).

The buses from Porto do Aveiro are mostly run from Campanhã rail station to Aveiro, “Rede de Espressos” or Citi express” bus companies.
